With the new MyPlate replacing the food pyramid in June, it can be difficult to stick to the new guidelines. Sharon Richter, registered dietician with a practice here in New York City, is here to share some tips for how to food plate your summer BBQ. - Stick to lean proteins like BBQ chicken - skip the bun and be sure to use a BBQ sauce with no high fructose corn syrup. - The new MyPlate guidelines call for half a plate of fruits and vegetables. A string bean and tomato salad give you two high impact vegetables in one serving. - To fulfill the whole grains portion of the new plate, stick to a handful of food should taste good multigrain tortilla chips with some mango/peach fruit salsa to get some extra fruit and veggies in. - When it`s hot out and you`re craving healthy treat at the end, a bite of a frozen kind bar.
